Women’s Basketball: Titans Tie School-Record in Win Over Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Geneva College by a score of 96-59 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The 96 points scored by the Titans tied the school-record for most points scored in a single contest, set on November 20, 2007 when Westminster defeated Pitt-Bradford by a score of 96-74.
 
Westminster (12-3, 5-1 PAC) jumped ahead of Geneva (1-11, 0-5 PAC) by a score of 18-12 at the end of the first quarter. In the second, the Titans utilized quick 7-2 run to start the quarter, capped off by a pair of free throws by senior forward Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) to take a 25-14 lead at the 6:58 mark of the quarter. With the score at 28-18 with 3:13 left in the half, Westminster rattled off an 8-0 run to take a 36-18 lead with 1:24 left in the half. The Titans took a 42-21 lead into the halftime intermission. The Titans broke their lead open in the third, as they outscored Geneva 30-14 in the quarter to take a 72-35 lead and held the lead for the rest of the contest.
 
Westminster shot 47.5% (29-61) from the field and 38.5% (10-26) from beyond the arc, while Geneva had a 24.4% (19-78) field goal percentage and was 26.3% (10-38) from three. Westminster also shot 75.7% (28-37) from the charity stripe. The Titans bested the Golden Tornadoes on the glass, 56-42. The Titans dished out a season-high 23 assists in the contest and their 96 points scored also marked a season-high.
 
Junior guard Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) led the way for Westminster with a game-high 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Greaves was also a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) was right behind with 13 points, while senior guard Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) tallied 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and buried a pair of threes. First-year guard Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) tied a career-high with 11 points and earned a career-high eight rebounds. Fromknecht and senior forward Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) contributed 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Fromknecht also recorded a game-high 10 rebounds, while Bennett distributed a career- and game-high seven assists.
 
Westminster will be back on the court on Wednesday, January 15 when it takes on Bethany College at home in a conference matchup at 6 p.m.
