NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team won both of its matches, against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Saint Vincent College and non-conference opponent The College of Wooster, at its home tri-match on Saturday.
Westminster improved its record to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the PAC.
Against Saint Vincent (5-8, 0-2 PAC), the Titans dropped the first set of the match by a score of 25-19. In the second set, the Titans were trailing 6-4 before they responded with six consecutive points, capped off by two kills by senior
Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) to take a 10-6 lead. Westminster went on to win the second set by a score of 25-14. The Titans rode the momentum of the second-set comeback to take the next two sets (25-17, 25-20), thus sealing the match by a score of 3-1. DeGeorge led the way with a match-high 18 kills, and was followed closely by sophomore
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) and first-year
Isabelle Snyder (Centerville, PA / Maplewood), who had 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Snyder's 10 kills were a career-high. Junior
Haley Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) totaled a match-high 23 assists and sophomore
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) compiled 18 assists of her own. Senior
Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) notched a career-high 41 digs in the victory.
Against Wooster (6-8, 0-0 NCAC), the Titans controlled the pace from the first set onward, scoring a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-18, 25-17). DeGeorge led Westminster with nine kills, while Snyder and senior
Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) were right behind with eight kills each. Kelly and Moore dished out 15 and 14 assists, respectively, while DeGeroge and Toporcer compiled 14 digs each.
Westminster will be back in action on Tuesday, September 24 when it travels to Pittsburgh, PA to take on La Roche University at 7 p.m.
