NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's soccer team lost in a non-conference matchup against Franciscan University (OH) on Saturday evening by a final score of 2-1.
Westminster dropped to 2-4 on the season, while the Barons improved to 2-1-1.
The Titans tallied the first goal of the contest in the first half when freshman
Ivan Mojica (Santa Rosa, CA / Elsie Allen) scored off a touch from senior
Ahmed Cisse (Germantown, MD / Clarksburg) to give Westminster a 1-0 lead in the 35
th minute, a lead it would take into halftime.
Franciscan tallied the equalizing goal in the 66
th minute after a foul inside the box gave Nick Miller a penalty kick opportunity that he deposited into the back of the net. The Barons notched another goal in the 84
th minute to extend their lead to 2-1 late in the second half.
Franciscan bested Westminster in shots (18-15) while the Titans led in corner kicks (5-1).
Cisse topped the Titans with four shots, while senior
Nick Cimini (Mars, PA / Mars Area) and sophomore
Michael Roman (Norristown, PA / Germantown Academy) tallied two shots a-piece. Senior
Ezra Cimino (Brookline, MA / Waldorf) grabbed five saves for Westminster.
Westminster will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 18 when they do battle with non-conference opponent La Roche University at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
