Volleyball: Titans Conclude Bearcat Challenge Undefeated, Steward Named on All-Tournament Team

LATROBE, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team concluded the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge undefeated as it won its two matches on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) was named on the All-Tournament Team.
 
The Titans (4-0) started the day with a 3-1 victory over Alfred University (1-2). Westminster dominated the first set, 25-7, with an impressive .500 hitting percentage, lost a close set two, 26-24, won a close set three, 25-23, and won the fourth set convincingly, 25-14. Steward and Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) led Westminster in kills with 12 each. Junior Haley Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) dished out a match- and career-high 26 assists, while sophomore Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) had 20. Moore and Kelly each had a match-high two service aces. Senior Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) led the defense as she tied a career-high with 28 digs. Senior Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) added 14 digs.
 
Westminster swept Allegheny (2-2), 25-12, 29-27, and 25-15. Steward totaled a match-best 11 kills. DeGeorge and Adelman added eight and seven kills, respectively. Steward tied a career-high with a match-high four service aces. Moore and Kelly both had 15 assists. Toporcer once again had a team-best in digs with 14, followed by Steward (13) and DeGeorge (12). First-year Kaylee Sciubba (Tarentum, PA / Deer Lakes) earned a career-high six blocks, five more than anyone from Allegheny.
 
Westminster is back on the court Tuesday, September 3 for its home-opener against Pittsburgh at Greensburg at 7 p.m.
