GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Westminster College baseball team lost, 6-2, to Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest on the road Monday afternoon.
Â
Thiel (16-17, 12-9 PAC) took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Tomcats tacked on another run in the second inning to extend their lead to 4-0. Westminster (11-18, 6-11 PAC) got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when freshman
Mike Grazier (Austintiown, OH / Austintown-Fitch) led off the inning with a double. Two batters later, freshman
Matt Costello (New Castle, PA / Union Area) grounded out to first, bringing in Grazier to give the Titans their first run of the game. The next inning, freshman
Dawson Porter (Kittaning, PA / Armstrong) launched his first career home run over the fence in left field to cut the Tomcats' lead down to 4-2. Thiel went on to score two more runs in the contest, while holding Westminster scoreless the remaining three innings.
Â
The Titans were led offensively by Porter and Grazier, who each went 1-for-3 on the day, and both collected an extra-base hit. Titan senior
Dante Parente (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) started on the mound for Westminster. He tossed six innings, scattered four hits, and gave up four earned runs, to go along with a pair of strikeouts.
Â
Westminster is scheduled to play at Saint Vincent College for a single, nine-inning game on Wednesday, April 24 at 3 p.m.
