Softball: Titans Split with Waynesburg in PAC-Opener

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team split with Waynesburg University in their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC)-opener on the road Thursday.

The Titans won game one, 4-1, and lost game two, 4-2.

Waynesburg (5-13, 1-1 PAC) led 1-0 after a run in the second inning in game one. Sophomore Haley Bedalota (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) put Westminster (6-10, 1-1 PAC) in front, after a 2-run triple (her team-leading second on the season), scoring first-year Krystyna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, PA / Fox Chapel) and sophomore Bailey Griffith (McDonald, PA / Fort Cherry). First-year Jasmine Woodings (Verona, PA / Penn Hills) and sophomore Alexis Brinza (McKees Rocks, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) both added insurance for Westminster, as Woodings had a ground-out-RBI in the third and Brinza connected on an RBI-double in the fourth. Burdelski earned her team-best fourth win on the season (4-4) after pitching a two-hit-no-earned-run-complete-game. Burdelski struck out two and walked the same.

The Titans had an early 1-0 lead in the nightcap, after Brinza brought home Burdelski off a fielder's choice in the first inning. Waynesburg, however, scored twice in the third and led 2-1. Westminster first-year Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) tied the game in the fifth with an RBI-single, scoring Bedalota. Tara Staley hit the game-winner in the sixth for Waynesburg. Brown (2-6) went six innings, while giving up three earned runs on nine hits and striking out four. Brown led at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Westminster will next play a conference doubleheader against Thiel College for its home-opener on Tuesday, April 2. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
