Softball: Titans Drop Two at Thiel

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team lost both games in their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Thiel College on Tuesday.

The Titan offense was led in game one by sophomore Haley Bedalota (Aliquippa, PA/ Hopewell) and senior Cheyenne Shifflett (Etters, PA / Trinity). Bedolata continued her strong sophomore campaign, going 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot. Shifflett matched Bedolata in the hits column, collecting three hits of her own to cap off a 3-for-3 day at the plate. Titan first-year pitcher Krystyna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, PA / Fox Chapel) started on the mound for the Titans, tossing four innings, giving up five runs on 10 hits. Burdelski struck out two and walked two.

In game two, the Titans tallied eight hits throughout the game, but were unable to convert with runners in scoring position. Despite the loss, Shifflett kept up her hot bat at the plate, notching two hits to highlight a 2-for-4 performance for the Titans. First-year pitcher Madison Brown (Libson, OH / East Liverpool) put forth a resilient effort on the mound for Westminster, only surrendering three runs off 14 hits. Brown struck out a career-high seven batters.

The Titans dropped to 6-12 overall and 1-3 in the PAC. Thiel improved 7-13 overall and in 2-0 in the conference.

The Titans will be back on the field Thursday afternoon when they take on the Penn State Altoona Nittany Lions in a non-conference doubleheader at home.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30.
