Men’s Lacrosse: Mount Union Holds off Westminster

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team lost, 6-5, at the University of Mount Union in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
 
Westminster (1-1) had an early 2-0 lead, courtesy of a first-quarter goal by each senior Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) (3:09) and freshman Joe Rosa (Newton, NJ / Kittatinny Regional) (2:26). Junior Adrian Culp (Gaithersburg, MD / Quince Orchard) earned the assist on Shorts's goal.
 
Mount Union (2-2) got on the scoreboard with a minute left in the first quarter, off the stick of Logan Addonizio. Addonizio tied the game at 2 with another goal in the second quarter (6:52).
 
The Titans answered and regained the lead after junior Dante Serra (Center Valley, PA / Southern Lehigh) found classmate Chris Slater (Plum, PA / Central Catholic) for a goal at the 5:35 mark. Westminster held a 3-2 lead at halftime.
 
The Purple Raiders outscored the Titans, 2-0, in the third to take their first lead of 4-3, going into the final frame.
 
In the fourth, Shorts connected with Rosa to tie the game at 4 with just under six minutes left in the game. Mount Union made it a two-goal game (6-4), with goals by Matt Bisono (4:53) and Alek Kungle (3:37). Culp found Shorts again for the final goal of the contest with 29 seconds left.
 
Titan senior goalkeeper Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) collected nine saves. Culp tied a game-high with a team-high four ground balls. Freshman Bennett Webster (Penfield, NY / Penfield) won a team-best five faceoffs.
 
Westminster will next play in its home-opener against non-conference opponent Neumann University on Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m.
