Softball: Titans Conclude Florida Trip

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Westminster College softball team lost, 10-0, to nationally ranked Kean University in five innings and fell to Husson University, 5-2, in the last day of The Spring Games on Friday.

No. 18 Kean (13-1), got off to a fast start in game one, scoring four in the first inning. Kean added two runs in the second inning, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth. Westminster was held to three hits. Senior Cheyenne Shifflett (Etters, PA / Trinity) had two of the hits, finishing 2-for-2. Sophomore Haley Bedalota (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) reached base twice with two walks in three plate appearances. Starting first-year pitcher Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) pitched four innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits. Brown walked none and struck out two and added a hit at the plate.

In game two, Husson (7-4) started the scoring with a one-run first inning. The Titans struck next to tie the game at one in the top of the fourth after Brown singled home Bedalota. The Eagles scored three in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Westminster added a run in the top of the sixth after a double by sophomore Alexis Brinza (McKees Rocks, PA / Our Lady of the Sacred Heart), scoring first-year Jasmine Woodings (Verona, PA / Penn Hills). Husson added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to hang on to win 5-2. Bedalota recorded one of the Titans' six hits, as well as a run and a stolen base. Brinza recorded the only Titans extra-base hit of the day with an RBI-double. Brown, Woodings, and senior Makena Baumgardner (Summerhill, PA / Forest Hills) each finished with a hit. Brown recorded an RBI, while Woodings added a run. Titan first-year pitcher Krystyna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, PA / Fox Chapel) pitched four innings, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts, while also going 1-for-2 at the plate.

The Titans (5-5) will next play at Hiram College in a doubleheader, Wednesday, March 20 starting at 3:30 p.m.
