KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Westminster College baseball team lost, 9-6, to Keene State College at Osceola Heritage Park in a nine-inning game during their Florida Trip on Thursday.
Westminster (2-4) had a 3-0 lead with a three-run second inning, all runs coming off freshman bats. Freshman Mike Grazier (Austintown, OH / Austintown-Fitch) brought home senior Hunter Alexander (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) with a sacrifice fly for the first run of the game. Freshman Matt Costello (New Castle, PA / Union Area) connected on an RBI-triple, followed by freshman Austin Webb (Wadsworth, OH / Wadsworth) with an RBI-single. Keene State (3-5) scored eight unanswered runs, with two runs in the third and six in the fourth, and led 8-3 after four innings of play. Junior Jaret Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles McKinley) started the Titan rally with an RBI-single in the fifth. Grazier followed with another sacrifice-fly, cutting Keene State's lead to 8-5. In the sixth, junior Frank Cinicola (Cranberry Township, PA / Seneca Valley) belted an RBI-double, scoring Webb, for the sixth and final Titan run. Westminster left two runners on base in both the eighth and ninth innings, including runners on second and third with one out during the Titans' last at-bat. Keene State sored its last run in the seventh.
Johnson, Webb, junior Tyler Barnot (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) led the Titans with three hits, while Cinicola and Costello each had two hits. Three Titans had an extra-base hit; Webb and Cinicola both had a double, while Costello earned a triple.
Titan freshman Cory Fleming (Monessen, PA / Monessen) (0-1) pitched three innings, while giving up eight runs (seven earned) on five hits. He struck out one and walked four.
Westminster will close out its Florida trip on Friday, March 15 in a doubleheader against Medaille College, starting at 9:30 a.m.
