NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The sixth-seed Westminster College women's basketball team erased a 14-point deficit to win, 88-80, at home over seventh-seed Waynesburg University in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament First Round Monday night.

Westminster (9-17) held a 9-7 lead, after a layup by junior Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt), with 5:39 left in the first quarter. Waynesburg (8-18) went on a 9-2 run and led 16-11 at the end of one. The Yellow Jackets led the entire second quarter including their largest lead of 14 points (35-21) with 59 seconds left. Waynesburg led 36-27 at halftime. The Titans battled back in the third quarter, starting the frame with a 20-9 run, capped off with a layup by first-year Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin), to take a 47-45 lead with 2:35 on the clock. Waynesburg tied the game twice, however, a three by senior Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) put the Titans in front, 53-50, at the end of three. Westminster maintained its lead in the fourth quarter, including its largest of 11 points (61-50) when junior Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohaw) made a fast-break layup with 9:02 on the clock. The Yellow Jackets got within five points of the Titans' lead (72-67) with 3:34 to play, but that would be the closest they would get. Four Titans scored in double-digits, led by Bennett and Mathews with 18 points each. Polczynski scored 17, while junior Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) tallied 13. Fromknecht registered her seventh double-double of the season (16th of her career) as she tied a game-high with 12 rebounds. Junior Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) and sophomore Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) added nine and eight points, respectfully. Greaves, Polczynski, and Mathews each dished out a team-high five assists. Greaves also pocketed a game-high four steals. Mathews and Polczynski each had a team-best three three-pointers. Matthews now has 145 career three-pointers, surpassing (Rachel Durbin '17) for third all-time in school history. Westminster outshot Waynesburg 43.3% (29-67) to 40.3% (27-67). The Titans shot 58.06% (18-31) in the second half. Both teams had 43 rebounds.
