GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 87-82 in overtime at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City College Wednesday evening.
The game started with back-and-forth play for the first 14 minutes, including eight total ties, the last one being at 5:59 (26-26). Westminster (11-14, 9-7 PAC) then broke the tie and went on to score eight consecutive points to take a 34-26 lead with 4:29 left in the half. The lead would stay with Westminster as it led 42-36 at half.
Grove City (14-10, 9-6 PAC) came out firing at the start second half, scoring 12 unanswered points, taking a 48-42 lead with 13:22 left. Until the 3:00 mark, Grove City held a small lead most of the time, with the Titans taking a one-point lead twice, including with 3:21 left in regulation (66-65). Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) hit a three-pointer to tie the game 71-71 and forced the game into overtime. In OT, the Titans led for most of the first half of the period, thanks to seven points from junior
Lloyd Chatman (Columbus, OH / Reynoldsburg), with the latest lead being at the 2:42 mark (79-78). However, the Wolverines would take and outscored the Titans 9-3 in the remainder of the OT period.
Chatman finished the game with a team-high 21 points, which also tied a career-high, including perfect free-throw shooting (6-6) and three three-pointers. Chatman also added a team-high three steals. Armwood and junior
Dylan O'Hara (Girard, OH / Girard) each finished with 15 points. Armwood also knocked down a game-high four three-pointers. Sophomore
Isaac Stamatiades (Elkridge, MD / Avalon) scored nine points and led the Titans and tied a game-high with 11 rebounds (including a game-high seven offensive rebounds). Stamatiades also finished with a team-high two blocks. Senior
African Grant II (Warren, OH / Warren JFK) also added nine rebounds (including six offensive rebounds) and seven points. Junior
Ricky Roth (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) led the Titans in assists with three.
The Titans, who had their six game winning streak snapped, will next compete in the PAC Tournament with the date and opponent to be determined.
