NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team improved to 5-0 on Ron Galbreath Court on Saturday as they won, 90-61, over Thiel College in its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at home.
Titan senior
Dylan O'Hara (Girard, OH / Girard) scored a game-high 26 points (8-12), including a game- and career-high six made threes (6-9). O'Hara also pocketed a game- and career-high six steals. Junior
Isaac Stamatiades (Elkridge, MD / Avalon) scored 19 points (6-12) and grabbed down 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year (10
th of his career). Stamatiades also caused a team-high six Thiel fouls. Junior
Daniel Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) scored in double-digits with 10 points. Senior
Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) registered eight points and six rebounds. First-year
Austin O'Hara (Girard, OH / Girard) tied a career-high with six points, while classmate
Alex Mullen (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) set a career-best with the same. Senior
Ricky Roth (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) dished out a game- and career-high seven assists.
Thiel (2-5, 1-1 PAC) started the game with an 8-1 lead. Westminster (5-3, 1-1 PAC) answered with a 12-4 run and led 13-12 with 14:49 on the clock. The Titans did not trail for the rest of the game. The Tomcats managed to tie it twice before halftime with the last one coming at 22-22. The Titans outscored the Tomcats 27-11 in the final eight minutes for a commanding 49-33 halftime lead. Westminster maintained its double-digit lead and had its largest lead of the game of 34 points twice, with the last one coming at 90-56.
Westminster made a season-best 14 threes, the most since the Titans made 15 vs. Geneva College on February 14, 2018. Also earning multiple threes, following O'Hara's six, were Stamatiades and Ritter who both had two.
The Titans outshot the Tomcats 49.2% (30-61) to 38.6% (22-57). Westminster caused 23 turnovers and scored 27 points off of Thiel miscues. The Titans had 20 fast-break points.
Westminster is back in action Friday, Dec. 13 at Kenyon College for a non-conference contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
