NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team lost, 3-0, to Geneva College on Senior Day Saturday evening.
The Titans lost by the scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-23.
Geneva (21-8, 12-4 PAC) never trailed in the first set, while Westminster (24-6, 13-3 PAC) continued to battle and got within one point (18-17) - following a kill by sophomore
Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft). The Golden Tornadoes ended the set with a 7-2 run. Geneva went up 2-0 after a 25-16 set two victory. The Titans had their first set lead in the third frame and led 11-10 after a kill by
Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John). Geneva took the lead (12-11) and held off Westminster for a 25-23 set three win.
DeGeorge led the Titan offense with 10 kills, followed by Steward and sophomore
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) who each had seven kills. Adelman added a team-best two blocks. Sophomore
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out a team-high 15 assists, while junior
Haley Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) had 10. Senior
Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) guided the defense with a team-high 19 digs, followed by Steward (10) and DeGeorge (9).
Westminster has clinched the number one seed and a First Round bye in the 2019 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament and will host the First Round winner of #5 Thiel College-#4 Saint Vincent College in the Semifinals scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
