NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 78-68, over No. 22 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University in non-conference action at home Tuesday evening.
Titan junior
Isaac Stamatiades (Elkridge, MD / Avalon) had a double-double with game-highs 21 points and 17 rebounds (career-high), while adding a game-high two blocks. Junior
Clay O'Dell (Vienna, OH / Kennedy Catholic) followed with a career-high 20 points off the bench. Also scoring in double-digits was senior
Dylan O'Hara (Girard, OH / Girard) with 11 points, to go along with a game-high four steals. Senior
Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) added nine rebounds and eight points, while classmate
Lloyd Chatman (Columbus, OH / Reynoldsburg) dished out a team-high three assists.
Westminster (3-1) took a 5-0 lead after Stamatiades converted on a traditional three-point play. The Yellow Jackets followed with a 12-2 run and led 12-7 with 17:04 on the clock. Westminster went back in front when Stamatiades made a layup with 13 minutes left (15-14). Baldwin Wallace (2-1) regained the lead and had its largest of the first half (33-24) with just under eight minutes to play. Baldwin Wallace was up 42-36 with two minutes on the clock, however, the Titans ended the first half with a 7-0 run to lead 43-42 at halftime. The Titans carried over their momentum in the second half and never trailed, while leading in double-digits 10 different times. Up 47-46, Westminster went on a 13-1 run to take a commanding 59-48 lead. The Yellow Jackets would get as close as five points (71-66) with 1:09 to play, but that would be the closest they would get for the rest of the game.
The Titans dominated the glass, outrebounding Baldwin Wallace 54-36 (including 20-10 in offensive rebounds).
Westminster will next host Franciscan University Saturday, Nov. 23 at 3:30 p.m.
