NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Westminster College women's basketball team defeated non-conference opponent, Manchester University, by a score of 63-56 on the road Saturday in the second day of the Manchester Tip-Off Tournament.
Westminster (4-0) jumped out to a 17-10 lead over Manchester (1-2) at the end of the first quarter. The Spartans came back in the second quarter to cut Westminster's lead to 30-28 at halftime.
In the second half, the Titans held a 42-39 lead at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Manchester grabbed the lead halfway through the fourth quarter and extend their lead to 49-46 with 4:50 left in the game. However, the Titans responded with a 7-0 run, capped off by a three ball from senior forward
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) to take a 53-49 lead with 3:32 left to go. The Titans maintained the lead for the rest of the game.
The Titans shot 30.9% (20-61) from the field and 28% (7-22) from beyond the arc, while recording a 64% mark from the charity stripe. Manchester was 30.9% (17-55) from the field and 28% (7-25) from three. The Titans outrebounded the Spartans 50-35.
Senior forward
Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) tied in leading all scorers with 16 points off of a 6-13 night from the field. Fromknecht recorded her second-straight double-double with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. First-year guard
Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney) was also in double figures with 11 points, and grabbed six rebounds. Junior guard
Ashley Russell (Belle Vernon, PA / Belle Vernon) tallied six points off the bench for Westminster.
Bennett and Fromknecht were named to the All-Tournament Team, while Fromknecht received Tournament MVP honors.
Westminster will be back on the court Saturday, November 23 when it takes on Allegheny College in its home opener at 1:30 p.m.
