NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team defeated non-conference opponent, Allegheny College, by a score of 61-48 at home on Saturday in their home opener.
Westminster (5-0) jumped out to a 19-6 lead over Allegheny (2-3) at the end of the first quarter. The Titans extended their lead to 31-15 at the halftime break.
In the second half, the Titans held a 48-29 lead at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Titans comfortably held on for a 61-48 victory. Westminster never trailed in the contest.
The Titans shot 47.1% (24-51) from the field. Allegheny was 27% (17-63) from the field. The Titans forced 25 turnovers.
First-year guard
Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney) led all scorers with a career-high 17 points off of a 7-12 night from the floor. Hergenrother also grabbed five rebounds. Senior forward
Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) was also in double figures with 14 points and five boards. Sophomore guard
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) contributed 13 points, five rebounds and tied for a game-high five assists with teammate
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell). Senior guard
Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) notched 10 points off the bench to go along with four rebounds.
Westminster will be back on the court Saturday, November 30 when it takes on Penn State Beaver at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
