MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College women's soccer team fell on the road to non-conference foe Allegheny College on Wednesday evening by a final score of 3-2.
Westminster (6-5-2, 1-0-1 PAC) got on the board first when sophomore
Ashley Frank (Mentor, OH / Mentor) tallied her first goal of the season off of a touch from senior
Kayla Trozzi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) to give the Titans a 1-0 lead in the 14
th minute. Allegheny (3-3-4, 0-2-0 AMCC) responded just four minutes later with a goal of its own to knot the game back up at 1-1.
In the second half, the Gators took advantage of a Titan foul inside the box, as they converted on a penalty kick in the 59
th minute to take a 2-1 lead. Allegheny added another goal in the 74
th minute to take a 3-1 lead. Westminster made things interesting with less than a minute to play as Trozzi tallied her ninth goal of the season to cut the Gators lead to 3-2 with just 33 seconds remaining. The Gators hung on in the final seconds to earn the victory.
Trozzi led the Titans with a goal and an assist on the day. Sophomore
Camille Holzschuh (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) notched nine saves in the complete-game effort.
Westminster will return to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 11 when it takes on Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
