PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team won, 3-1, at Chatham University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Wednesday night.
Westminster, on a nine-match winning streak, improved to 17-1 overall and 6-0 in the PAC, while Chatham dropped to 6-12 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
The Titans went up 2-0 winning set one, 25-22, and set two, 25-18. The Cougars forced a fourth set after winning set three, 25-23. The fourth set was tied at 13, before the Titans started to pull away with four-straight points and led 17-13. Westminster did not let the Cougars get any closer than three points the rest of the match and won with a 25-19 fourth-set victory.
Sophomore
Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) led the Titan offense with a match-high 11 kills. Sophomore
Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) tallied 10 kills, while first-year
Isabelle Snyder (Centerville, PA / Maplewood) had nine. Sophomore
Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) and junior
Haley Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) dished out 18 and 13 assists, respectively. Senior
Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) served a match-high three aces, to go along with seven kills. Senior
Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) guided the Titan defense with a match-best 37 digs, followed by DeGeorge (20), Steward (15), Kelly (14), and Moore (10). Adelman added a match-best six blocks.
Westminster is back in action Saturday, Oct. 12 at Geneva for a tri-match, starting with a PAC game against Thiel at 1 p.m.
