Volleyball: Swearingen Achieves 600th Career Win, Titans Sweep PAC Tri-Match

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team swept their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tri-match on the road on Saturday. The Titans defeated Thiel College in game one by a score of 3-0 (25-10, 25-22, 25-14) before defeating Geneva College in game two by a score of 3-2 (25-20, 25-14, 21-25, 24-26, 16-14).
 
In game one against Thiel (7-15, 6-3 PAC), 27th year Head Coach Tammy Swearingen made history as she earned her 600th career win. Going into the 2019 season, Swearingen was the 18th-winningest active NCAA Division III coach in the country for total victories.
 
Sophomore Becky Adelman (Randolph, OH / Waterloo) led Westminster (19-1, 8-0 PAC) in game one with ten kills, while seniors Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) and Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) notched seven and five kills, respectively. Sophomore Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) dished out a team-high 13 assists and junior Haley Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) was right behind with ten assists of her own. Senior Josie Toporcer (Warren OH, Lordstown) had a match-high 22 digs for Westminster.
 
In game two, the Titans snagged the first two sets to take a 2-0 lead before Geneva (14-7, 6-3 PAC) responded by taking the next two sets to send the match to a fifth and final set. Despite trailing 12-10 in the final set, Westminster answered by scoring six of the next eight points to win the final set by a score of 16-14. DeGeorge led with a match-high 21 kills, while sophomore Maya Steward (Los Angeles CA / William Howard Taft) was right behind with a career-high 20. DeGeorge also had a team-high 28 digs and four service aces. Kelly had a team-high 29 assists. Adelman added a game-high six blocks. DeGeorge is only ten kills away from 1,000 for her career.
 
Westminster will return to the court on Tuesday when it takes on PAC foe Washington & Jefferson at home. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
