Men’s Soccer: Iregui Breaks Career Goals Record, Titans Draw with Yellow Jackets

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Westminster College men's soccer team battled to a draw with their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent, Waynesburg, by a score of 2-2 on the road on Saturday.

In the 55th minute, junior forward Nick Iregui made history when he scored the 38th goal of his career, surpassing Titans Sports Hall of Famer Matt Roser (2000-03) for the career goals record in the process. Iregui's goal came from a cross inside from senior Peter Mattocks (Saegertown, PA / Saegertown). Westminster (8-5-2, 3-0-2 PAC) outshot Waynesburg (3-8-3, 0-2-3 PAC) 9-7 in the first half, but neither team was able to break through and went into the halftime break deadlocked at 0-0.

In the second half, Mattocks tallied the first goal of the game in the 49th minute from 25 yards out to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. Just over five minutes later, Iregui notched the record-breaking goal to extend the Titans lead to 2-0. In the 86th minute, Waynesburg scored off of a scramble inside the box to cut the Titans lead to 2-1. In the 89th minute, the Yellow Jackets notched the equalizing goal off of a penalty kick to make it 2-2 and send the game into overtime. Neither team was able score in either of the overtime periods, thus ending the game in a 2-2 draw.

The Titans were narrowly outshot by the Yellow Jackets (21-20) and held the edge in corner kicks (7-2).

Senior goalkeeper Ezra Cimino (Brookline MA / Waldorf) grabbed seven saves in the complete-game effort.

Westminster will return to the pitch on Tuesday Oct. 22 when it takes on Chatham University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
