GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College men's soccer team won, 4-1, over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Thiel College on the road Friday evening.
Westminster (7-5-1, 2-0-1 PAC) utilized a pair of multi-goal games courtesy of senior
Ahmed Cisse (Germantown, MD / Clarksburg) and
Peter Mattocks (Saegertown, PA / Saegertown) en-route to the victory.
Cisse got the Titans in the scoring column in the 23
rd minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Titans took said lead into halftime. Just five minutes into the second half, Mattocks notched his first goal off of a touch from sophomore
Logan Mannheimer (South Park, PA / South Park) to extend the Titans lead to 2-0. In the 56
th minute, Thiel (0-10-2, 0-3-0 PAC) got on the board with a penalty kick goal to cut Westminster's lead to 2-1. Just 1:04 later, Cisse was fouled inside the box, and promptly buried a penalty kick of his own to grant the Titans a 3-1 lead. In the 64
th minute, Mattocks tallied his second goal of the contest to extend the Titans lead to 4-1, a lead which would hold for the rest of the contest.
On top of the multi-goal games, Cisse fired nine shots, while Mattocks tallied six of his own to equal a 15-shot barrage between the two players. The Titans outshot Thiel (21-4) and led in corner kicks (14-2). Senior
Ezra Cimino (Brookline, MA / Waldorf) tallied one save in the complete game victory.
The Titans will return to the pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in a rematch of last year's PAC Championship game when they take on Grove City at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
