Men’s Basketball: Armwood Scores 1,000th, Leads Titans to PAC Win at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 89-78, at Waynesburg University in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday.

Senior Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) scored his 1,000th career point as he led the Titans with a season-high 19 points. Armwood became just the 40th Titan in school history to notch 1,000 for his career. His 1,009 career points currently rank 39th.

Waynesburg (5-14, 4-7 PAC) led 29-23, its largest lead of the game, in the first half with 4:55 left. Westminster (7-13, 5-6 PAC) answered with a 20-3 run to end the first frame with a 43-32 lead. During the run, the Titans were 8-of-9 shooting (4-of-5 from three-point range), led by sophomore Daniel Ritter (North Lima, OH / South Range) and junior Dylan O'Hara (Girard, OH / Girard) who led the Titans with eight and seven points, respectively.

In the second half, Westminster took its largest lead of the game, 60-43, after a jumper by Armwood with 13:17 remaining. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 12-0 run to cut the Titans' lead to 60-55 with 10:54 to play. Waynesburg got within five points again (64-59) with 9:17 left, but that would be the closest it would get for the remainder of the contest.

In addition to Armwood, three other Titans scored in double-digits. Ritter scored a career-high 16 points. Junior Lloyd Chatman (Columbus, OH / Reynoldsburg) scored 13. O'Hara had 12 points, to go along with a game-high nine rebounds and a team-high three steals. Ritter tied a career-best with seven boards. Senior African Grant II (Warren, OH / Warren JFK) and junior Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) had seven points and five rebounds each. Armwood tied a game-high with four assists. Sophomore Clay O'Dell (Vienna, OH / Kennedy Catholic) tallied a game- and career-high three blocks.

The Titans outshot the Yellow Jackets, 52.2% (35-67) to 47.4% (27-57) and outrebounded Waynesburg, 36-26. Westminster's shooting percentage was its second-highest this season.

Westminster will next host Washington & Jefferson College Wednesday, January 30 at 8 p.m.
