Men’s Soccer: Mattocks Finds Iregui for OT Game-Winner Against Frostburg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's soccer team won, 3-2, in overtime against Frostburg State University at home Tuesday night.

Frostburg State (3-6-1) scored first when Randy Putnam headed in a deflection in the 31st minute of the first half. The Bobcats led, 1-0, at halftime.

Westminster (6-2-0) equaled the game, 1-1, after freshman Noah Weiss (South Park, PA / South Park) found junior Peter Mattocks (Saegertown, PA / Saegertown) with a cross in the box for a goal at the 61:28 mark in the second half. Frostburg, a man down after a red card, went in front, 2-1, after Brett Basham found Kaps Kapende for a goal off a header in the box in the 82nd minute.

Sophomore Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy), the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week, tied the game, 2-2, after converting on a penalty kick with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. With less than three minutes remaining in overtime, Mattocks split defenders with a through ball and connected with Iregui who shot far post past a sliding defender and the Bobcat goalie for the game-winner. Iregui now has a team-high 11 goals on the year, while Mattocks is tied with a team-best three assists on the year.

Titan senior goalkeeper AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) earned three saves in a complete-game effort.

The Titans outshot the Bobcats, 19-9, including 14-5 on-goal. Westminster also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Westminster will open PAC play Wednesday, Oct. 3 against Waynesburg University at home at 5 p.m.
