NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's soccer team shut out Waynesburg University, 4-0, in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener at home on Wednesday.
The Titans, who notched their fifth shutout of the season, improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the PAC, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Sophomore
Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy) netted the first goal of the game two minutes into the contest, after gathering in a loose ball in the box, for his team-leading 12
th goal of the year.
First-year
Sam Accordino (Canfield, OH / Canfield) put the Titans ahead, 2-0, in the 14
th minute after putting in a deflection in the box for his third goal of the season.
Senior
Justin Brandt (Ellicott City, MD / Archbishop Spalding) extended Westminster's lead to 3-0 in the 32
nd minute after receiving a pass from Iregui and placing the ball in the upper 90 of the far post from 30 yards out.
Junior
Paul Kellar (Cortland, OH / Maplewood) scored the final Titan goal with less than a minute remaining in the game, his first goal of the season, after freshman
Payton Goodwin (Pittsburgh, PA / Plum) found him with a chip-pass in the box.
Titan senior goalkeeper
AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) earned the win with 66:26 minutes of work.
For the game, Westminster outshot Waynesburg, 22-4, including 11-1 on-goal. The Titans also had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Titans will next play at Geneva College Saturday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m.
