BETHANY, W.Va. – The Westminster College women's tennis team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Bethany College, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Westminster improved its overall record to 2-2 on the year, while remaining undefeated in PAC play at 2-0. Bethany fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Westminster, as a team, won 96 of the 103 total sets played. Junior
Margo Mason (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley) was victorious at number one singles (6-1, 6-1). Junior
Alex Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica / Immaculate Conception) and sophomore
Casey Barton (New York City, NY / Dominican Academy) each won, 6-0, 6-0, at number two and four singles, respectively. Sophomore
Julia Serbati (Oil City, PA / Oil City Area) won her number three singles match, 6-1, 6-0, while first-year
Sara Small (Beaver, PA / Beaver Area) and sophomore
McKenna Robinson (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) also won, 6-1, 6-0, at number five and six singles, respectively.
Marzouca and Mason teamed up at number one doubles for an 8-1 victory, while Small and Serbati won at number two doubles in straight sets (8-0). Barton and junior
Allyson Gitzen (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) rounded out the double pairings with an 8-1 victory at number three doubles.
Westminster is back on the court Monday, September 17 at home against Division II Clarion University. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
