Volleyball: Titans Open Wooster Invite with Two Wins, Extend Win-Streak to Six

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Westminster College volleyball team won both of its matches in day one of Wooster College's Kilt Classic on Friday.
 
Westminster (10-1), on a six-match winning streak, won 3-1 over Pitt-Bradford in the first match and swept Oberlin College, 3-0, in match two.
 
The Titans were down 1-0 against Pitt-Bradford (5-6) after a 25-23 set one loss, however, won three-straight sets (25-15, 25-23, 25-17) for the match victory. First-year Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) led the Titan offense with 13 kills. Senior Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) also had double-digit kills with 10, while junior Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) and first-year Becky Adelman (Mogadore, OH / Waterloo) had nine and eight kills, respectively. Steward also had a match-high four service aces. Senior Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) dished out a team-high 19 assists, followed by first-year Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) with 18. Senior Rachel Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) led the Titan defense with a match-best 19 digs, while DeGeorge and Steward had eight and seven digs, respectively. Junior Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic), Adelman, and Saxton each had a team-high two blocks apiece.
 
Against Oberlin (3-5), Westminster won set one, 25-17, set two, 25-22, and set three, 25-13. Saxton registered a team-high 10 kills. DeGeorge and Steward earned eight and seven kills, respectively. Moore totaled a team-best 12 digs. Steward and DeGeorge tallied nine and eight digs, respectively. Adelman finished with a match-high three blocks. Daniels earned a team-high 12 assists, while Kelly totaled 11. DeGeorge led all players with five service aces and now has a team-high 29 aces on the year.
 
The Titans will conclude the Classic on Saturday with an 11 a.m. match against Marietta College and a 1 p.m. match against host Wooster.
