LATROBE, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team won both of its matches in day one of the Saint Vincent College Bearcat Challenge on Friday.
The Titans blanked Frostburg State University, 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-21), in game one and outlasted John Carroll University, 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 27-25, 22-25, 15-13), in their second match of the night.
Senior
Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) led the Titan offense with 34 total kills, including a career-high 21 against John Carroll. In both games combined, Saxton mustered a team-high .429 hitting percentage (including a .545 hitting percentage in the shutout against Frostburg State). First-year
Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) and junior
Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) added 17 and 16 total kills respectively, on the night. DeGeorge also had a team-high nine total service aces, to go along with her team-best 44 combined digs. Senior
Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) dished-out a combined 48 assists, while sophomore
Hannah Santom (Grove City, PA / Grove City) added 35. Senior
Rachel Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) registered 35 total digs, while Steward had 29. Sophomore
Megan Steele (Corry, PA / Corry) tallied a team-high eight total blocks, while Saxton earned six.
The Titans will finish out the Bearcat Challenge tomorrow with a 12 p.m. match against Oberlin College and a 2 p.m. contest against Pittsburgh-Greensburg.
