NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team lost, 10-8, to Washington & Jefferson College at home in an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) contest Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
Both teams scored one goal in the first quarter; sophomore
Dante Serra (Center Valley, PA / Southern Lehigh) registered the Titan goal with 1:10 on the clock. Freshman
Shane Fisher (Palm Harbor, FL / East Lake) found junior
Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) less than a minute into the second quarter to put Westminster (5-7, 3-5 ORLC) in front, 2-1. Washington & Jefferson (6-9, 5-3 ORLC) tied the game at two at the 10-minute mark. Shorts answered with his second goal of the game with 4:36 remaining in the first half to give the Titans a 3-2 lead; freshman
Jack Granahan (Aldie, VA / John Champe) earned the assist.
The Presidents, however, registered five-straight goals, starting at the 4:14 mark of the second quarter and ending at the 2:55 mark of the third, and led 7-3. The Titans responded with three consecutive goals in the final two minutes of the third, led by sophomore
Adrian Culp (Gaithersburg, MD / Quince Orchard) with a pair, and were only down 7-6 at the end of three; senior
Raymond Shalvoy (Rochester, NY / East Rochester) scored the third goal after receiving a pass from Fisher. W&J started the final stanza with two goals to extend its lead, 9-6, with 8:16 remaining. Shorts cut into W&J's lead with his team-high third goal on the day with 7:41 left, however, the Presidents countered with a goal two minutes later. Tyler Nordby (Burnt Hills, NY / Burnt Hills) earned the assist. Titan junior goalkeeper
Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) had a game-high 15 saves in a complete-game effort.
Westminster had an advantage in face offs (14-7) and ground balls (42-33). W&J led in shots-on-goal, 25-22. Titan sophomore
Steven Knight (Wyckoff, NJ / Ramapo) collected a game-high eight ground balls, while Shorts added seven.
The Titans will next play at Thiel College Wednesday, April 25 at 7 p.m. in ORLC action.
