Men’s Lacrosse: Titans Fall to ORLC Foe Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team lost, 9-5, to Grove City College in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) action Wednesday night.

Grove City (7-5, 4-3 ORLC) started the game strong, outscoring Westminster (5-6, 3-4 ORLC), 4-1, in the first quarter. The Wolverines led 3-0 within the first 10 minutes of the game. Senior Raymond Shalvoy (Rochester, NY / East Rochester) put the Titans on the scoreboard after receiving a pass from sophomore Ryan Stiemly (Edgewood, MD/Edgewood / Edgewood) at the 2:47 mark. The Wolverines added another goal with under a minute to go to take a three-goal lead after one. The Titans scored two-straight goals within the first three minutes of the second quarter, both courtesy of Shalvoy (14:07, 12:35), cutting Grove City's lead to 4-3. The Wolverines jumped out, 7-3, after they closed out the second quarter with two goals and opened the third with a score. Titan sophomore Adrian Culp (Gaithersburg, MD / Quince Orchard) responded with two consecutive goals (10:47, 04:10), bringing the score to 7-5 in favor of Grove City with four minutes to play in the third quarter. That would be the closest Westminster would get as Grove City scored the final two goals (one to close out the third and the only goal in the fourth). Titan junior goalkeeper Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) collected 15 saves in a complete-game effort.

Grove City had an advantage in shots-on-goal (24-16) and ground balls (33-31). The Titans won 12 face offs to Grove City's 4. Titan sophomore Dante Serra (Center Valley, PA / Southern Lehigh) gathered in a game-high five ground balls.

The Titans will host Washington & Jefferson College in their regular season home finale Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m.
