NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's tennis team shut out Thiel College, 9-0, at home in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday afternoon.
The Titans, earning their first shutout on the season, are winners of four of their last five matches.
Titan freshman
Miguel Ascencio (Venitia, PA / Peters Township) won his seventh-straight match at number ones singles, 6-0, 6-1. Freshman
Alex Georgescu (Hermitage, PA / Hickory) won at number two singles, 6-0, 6-2.
Seniors
A.J. May (Butler, PA / Butler) (No. 3) and
Kornel Foremski (Shaker Heights, OH / Shaker Heights) (No. 4) both earned shutout-victories at their respective singles spots. Foremski has now won seven-straight singles matches at number four.
Freshman
Collin Kelly (McDonald, PA / Canon MacMillan) won his fifth-straight number five singles competition, 6-0, 6-1, while sophomore
Yu-Hsien Lin (New Taipei City, Taiwan / Andrews Osborne Academy) won at number six singles, 6-0, 6-3.
Ascencio and Foremski teamed up for an 8-1 win at number one doubles. The duos of Georgescu and May (No. 2/8-1) and Kelly and Paff (No. 3/8-4) also earned wins in doubles.
The Titans improved to 4-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference, while the Tomcats dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in league play.
Westminster will host Washington & Jefferson College in its regular season home finale Wednesday, April 18 at 4 p.m.
