WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Westminster College women's lacrosse team shut out Waynesburg University, 18-0, on the road in an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) contest on Tuesday.
The Titans led, 12-0, at halftime and scored six more times in the second half.
Junior
Emily D'Amico (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area) and sophomore
Romie Schweickert (Hiram, OH / Crestwood) each scored a game-high five goals. Schweickert's goal total was a career-high, while D'Amico scored all five of hers in the first half, including three in the first five minutes of the game. Sophomore
Michaela Hays (Blairsville, PA / Blairsville) tied a career-high with two goals. Also, scoring a goal for Westminster were sophomores
Cortlynn Douds (Darlington, PA / Blackhawk),
Emily Marcus (South Park, PA / South Park),
Kelsi Simmons (Erie, PA), and
Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry PA / Seneca), along with first-years
Marisa Keller (Canonsburg, PA / Canon-McMillan) and
Taylor Williams (West Middlesex, PA / West Middlesex Area). The goals marked Marcus's, Simmons's, and Williams's first of their respective collegiate careers.
Sophomore
Bria Braddock (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) and senior
Sarah Nutter (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) each earned an assist.
Titan first-year goalkeeper
Matalyn Holland (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler Area) collected three saves in a complete-game shutout.
The Titans outshot the Yellow Jackets, 48-4, including 40-3 on-goal. Waynesburg's first shot-on-goal did not come until five minutes into the second half. Westminster also had an advantage in ground balls (49-13), draw controls (16-4), and free-position shots (13-2). Braddock gathered in a game-high 10 ground balls (tying a career-high), while Schweickert had a career-high seven ground balls.
Westminster improved to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the ORLC, while Waynesburg dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
The Titans will next compete on Sunday, April 15 with a home ORLC game versus Hanover College, starting at 12:30 p.m.
