WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 63-49, at Washington & Jefferson College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday afternoon.
Westminster (4-5, 2-2 PAC) led 6-2 to start the game after junior
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) made a three-pointer. Washington & Jefferson (5-5, 3-1 PAC) surged to a 17-0 run and led 19-6 with 1:25 left in the first. The Presidents led 23-10 at the end of one and led 38-26 at halftime. The Titans got within single-digits of W&J's lead (38-30) following a layup by first-year
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) early in the second half. The Presidents, however, regained their double-digit lead and maintained it for the rest of the game.
Polczynski led the Titans with 10 points, marking the fifth-time this year she has scored in double-digits. Junior
Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) tallied nine points, to go along with five rebounds. Sophomore
Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds. Fromknecht registered seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Fromknecht also dished out a game-high four assists. Junior
Francesca Sicari (Erie, PA / McDowell) added six points. Senior
Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH) and first-year
Kierra Taylor (East Liverpool, OH / Beaver Local) led the Titans with two steals.
The Titans outshot the Presidents, 32.1% (17-53) to 31.7% (20-63). W&J outrebounded Westminster, 49-34.
Westminster will next play at Hiram College Thursday, December 20 at 5 p.m.
