NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's soccer team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Thiel College, 5-0, on Tuesday evening.
The Titans honored seniors
Keely Birsic (North Ridgeville, OH / Elyria Catholic),
Angela Bowell (Youngstown, OH / Ursuline),
Mackenzie Gruber (Hermitage, PA / Hickory), and
Emily Irvine (Cheswick, PA / Deer Lakes) before the match.
Westminster improved to 11-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in PAC play, while Thiel fell to 2-9-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the conference.
Westminster scored the first goal courtesy of Birsic in the 34
th minute. Birsic knocked in a free kick from 40 yards out to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. The score would stay the same at halftime. Early in the second half (52
nd minute), Birsic scored her second goal of the contest with another free kick, this time from 20 yards out to extend the Titan lead, 2-0. Just four minutes later (56

Kayla Trozzi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) Trozzi connected with the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season, giving Westminster a 3-0 lead. Less than a minute later, in the 57
th minute, sophomore
Jocelyn Gillette (Natrona Heights, PA / Highlands) received the ball inside the box off a corner kick from Birsic and scored her fourth goal of the season (4-0). Birsic netted her third goal of the match (and ninth of the season) for her first-career hat trick. First-year
Ashley Frank (Mentor, OH / Mentor) was credited with the assist.
The Titans outshot Thiel, 23-1, and led in corner kicks 4-0.
Westminster is back in action Saturday, October 13 on the road at PAC foe Saint Vincent College. Start time is set for 3 p.m.
