NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Carlow University, 2-1, at home on Wednesday afternoon.
Westminster (14-4) scored first from the foot of junior
Kayla Trozzi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) in the 13
th minute. Trozzi took a pass from sophomore Jocelyn Gillete (Natrona Heights, PA / Highlands) and dribbled down the right sideline, eventually connecting with the back of the net to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. The score stayed the same at halftime. At the 59
th minute of the second half, senior
Keely Birsic (North Ridgeville, OH / Elyria Catholic) scored her 11
th goal of the season off a 20-yard free kick (2-0). Birsic's goal total is tied for first in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Carlow (8-6-1) got on the board with just 23 seconds left, however, Westminster held off the Celtics the rest of the way to win, 2-1.
Birsic had a game-high six shots, while also tallying a game-high four shots on goal. Trozzi registered two shots and two shots on goal. Junior
Kiki Kawarizadeh (New Albany, OH / New Albany) totaled two shots and one shot on goal.
Westminster led in shots, 15-13, while each team totaled five corner kicks.
The Titans' next compete at PAC foe Grove City for their final game of the regular season. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
