Volleyball: Titans Sweep PAC Rival Geneva for 20th Win, Remain Undefeated in PAC

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College volleyball team swept Geneva College, 3-0, in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action at home Tuesday night.
 
The Titans, who are on a 16-match winning streak, improved to 20-1 overall and a perfect 7-0 conference record. The Golden Tornadoes dropped to 10-8 overall and 4-5 in the PAC.
 
Down 4-1 in set one, the Titans went on a 5-1 run to take a 6-5 lead. Westminster followed with a 10-3 run to go ahead 16-8. The Titans took a double-digit lead (20-10) and did not let the Golden Tornadoes get any closer than nine points for the remainder of the frame and won set one 25-15. The Titans never trailed in set two and went up, 2-0, after a 25-19 victory. Geneva led 8-5 in the third set, however, the Titans rallied for a 6-0 run to take a 11-8 lead. The Golden Tornadoes kept it close and eventually tied the set at 20, then took the lead, 22-20. Geneva had set point at 25-24, however, the Titans scored three-straight to win 27-25 to seal the sweep.
 
Junior Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) led the Titan offense with a match-high 12 kills, while senior Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) and first-year Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) each added 10. Steward led the Titan defense with a match-high 19 digs, while DeGeorge added 14 and senior Rachel Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) tallied eight. Sophomore Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) registered a match-high three blocks, including two solo. First-year Becky Adelman (Mogadore, OH / Waterloo) added two blocks. First-year Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) finished with a team-best 17 assists, while senior Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) and sophomore Haley Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) each totaled nine.
 
Westminster will next compete in the Bethany College tri-match on Saturday, October 6. The Titans will play Chatham University at 1 p.m. and Bethany at 3 p.m.
