Volleyball: Westminster Breaks School-Record for Consecutive Wins at Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va. – The Westminster College volleyball team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponents Chatham University and Bethany College at the Bethany College Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon.
 
Westminster (22-1, 9-0 PAC) set a new school record with 18 consecutive wins. The record, previously held by the 2007 and 1997 Titan volleyball teams, started on Friday, September 7 against non-conference opponent Allegheny College. Westminster went 54-10 in sets during that span.
 
Westminster took the first set over Chatham (5-15, 1-8 PAC) in game one, 25-20. The Titans defeated the Cougars convincingly in set two, 25-7, before winning the third set 25-23. Senior Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) led all players with 11 kills. Junior Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John) tallied 10 kills, while first-year Becky Adelman (Mogadore, OH / Waterloo) had nine. Adelman and Saxton each tied a match-high with three blocks, including three solo blocks for Adelman. Senior Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) recorded a match-high 23 assists. Senior Rachel Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) finished with a match-high 23 digs, while Daniels and first-year Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) added 15 and 12, respectively. Westminster, as a team, hit .321 and recorded six service aces, three of which Daniels accounted for.
 
In game two against Bethany (14-8, 7-2 PAC), Westminster edged the Bison in set one, 25-23. The Titans mirrored their first set with a 25-23 set two victory. The Bison took set three, 25-12, before Westminster sealed the match with a 25-23 set four victory. Saxton recorded a match-high 15 kills, with Steward (12) and DeGeorge (11) finishing second and third on the team in kills, respectively. Daniels dished out a match-high 26 assists, while first-year Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) added 14. Moore finished with a match-high 30 digs. DeGeorge and Steward added 18 and 17 digs, respectively. Adelman, junior Haley Farmerie (Manor, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic), and sophomore Josie Toporcer (Warren, OH / Lordstown) each totaled two blocks. Westminster hit .339 as a team and edged the Bison in service aces (8-7).
 
Westminster is back in action Thursday, October 11 on the road at conference opponent Waynesburg University. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
