WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Westminster College women's tennis team defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Waynesburg University, 9-0, on the road Monday evening.
Westminster improved to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Waynesburg fell to 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the PAC.
Junior
Margo Mason (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley), who was recently named PAC Rookie of the Week, defeated her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, at the number one singles spot. Junior
Alex Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica / Immaculate Conception) and sophomores
Julia Serbati (Oil City, PA / Oil City Area) and
McKenna Robinson (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) also won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, as Marzouca won at number two, Serbati at number three and Robinson at number six singles. Sophomore
Casey Barton (New York City, NY / Dominican Academy) won at number four singles (6-2, 6-2) and first-year
Sara Small (Beaver, PA / Beaver Area) was victorious at number six singles (6-1, 6-1).
Mason and Marzouca teamed up at number one doubles, winning 8-0. Serbati and Small (#2 doubles) as well as Barton and junior
Allyson Gitzen (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) (#3 doubles) also won in straight sets, 8-0.
Westminster is back in action Friday, October 5 at home against PAC opponent Saint Vincent College. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
