Men’s Basketball: Titans Pull Away in Second Half for 72-58 Win at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 72-58, at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington & Jefferson College Wednesday night.
 
There were five lead changes in the first 10 minutes of the first half. Washington & Jefferson (3-17, 2-11 PAC) took a 15-11 lead with 10:18 on the clock. Westminster (15-5, 9-4 PAC) answered with an 11-0 run, capped off with a layup by sophomore Lloyd Chatman (Columbus, OH / Reynoldsburg), and led 22-15, its largest lead of the frame, with 7:33 left. The Titans held a 26-24 lead at intermission. In the second half, the Presidents got within one point of Westminster's lead (33-32) with 17:27 to play. The Titans would not let W&J get any closer for the remainder of the game and took their first double-digit lead, 52-41, when junior Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) scored a layup with 9:57 remaining. Westminster maintained its double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest, while having its largest lead of 19 points five different times – with the latest coming at the 1:44 mark (72-53).
 
Sophomore Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) led the Titans with 13 points, while Armwood registered 11. Senior Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) scored nine points, to go along with seven rebounds. Junior Dylan O'Hara (Girard, OH / Girard) and Chatman each had eight points. Freshman Isaac Stamatiades (Elkridge, MD / Avalon) tallied seven points and six rebounds. Sophomore Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and had five points. Kane-Johnson dished out a team-best three assists. Stamatiades and Payne tied for a game-high with two blocks, while Vrabel and junior Marco Delorenzo (Canfield, OH / Canfield) each pocketed a game-best two steals.
 
Westminster outshot Washington & Jefferson 40.0% (24-60) to 36.7% (22-60) and dominated on the glass outrebounding the Presidents, 47-26.
 
The Titans will next play at Waynesburg University in PAC action Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3:30 p.m.
