Men’s Basketball: Titans Fall, 76-69, at Bethany

BETHANY, W. Va. – The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 76-69, in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on the road Saturday afternoon.
 
Bethany (10-9, 10-2 PAC) held an early 7-2 lead with 17:17 on the clock. Westminster (14-5, 8-4 PAC) tied the game at 7 less than two minutes later after a three-pointer by junior Marco Delorenzo (Canfield, OH / Canfield). The Titans took their first lead of the game when sophomore Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) made a three-pointer, his first of a career-high sixth in the game, at the 10:46 mark, putting Westminster ahead, 14-13. The Bison regained the lead, 20-17, after Jerron Athey made a three with 8:12 on the clock. After two ties, the Titans regained the lead, 28-27, following a layup by junior Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) with 4:30 remaining. Westminster maintained its lead for the remainder of the half and led 32-31 at halftime. In the second half, Bethany got back in front and held its lead for the first six minutes. Titan senior Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) tied the game at 46 with a three-pointer at the 14:03 mark and sophomore Blake Payne (Ashtabula, OH / Jefferson Area) put Westminster back in front, 48-47, with 13:37 remaining. Five lead changes would ensue with the fifth one occurring at the 9:02 mark, when Bethany went up 58-57. The Bison did not trail again for the remainder of the game. The Titans did tie the game at 67 after senior Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) made a layup with 3:02 left. Bethany outscored Westminster 9-2 in the final three minutes.
 
Four Titans scored in double-figures, led by Kane-Johnson with 26 points (9-for-17), which tied a game-high and marked the second highest point output for the sophomore. Kane-Johnson made a career-high six three-pointers (6-for-12), tying Bethany's team total for the game. Scott registered his seventh double-double of the season and 26th of his career as he scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Armwood (10) and Delorenzo (10) also scored in double-digits. Vrabel tallied seven boards and earned game-highs in blocks (2) and steals (3). Armwood and sophomore Lloyd Chatman (Columbus, OH / Reynoldsburg) each had three assists.
 
The Titans will next play at Washington & Jefferson College in PAC action Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m.
