Men’s Soccer: Titans Top Redhawks 3-1

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's soccer team defeated La Roche College 3-1 on Wednesday night at home.

The Titans improved their record to 4-4-1 overall. LaRoche's record dropped to 3-5.

Titan freshman Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy) scored the first goal of the contest in just the fourth minute of play. After receiving a pass from junior Shane Fallen (Blue Bell, PA / Wissahickon), Iregui dribbled at the left side of the 18-yard box and struck the back of net from six yards out. Junior Justin Brandt (Ellicott City, MD / Archbishop Spalding) widened the lead for the Titans, scoring in the 17th minute. Senior Zack Walters (Hermitage, PA / Hickory) assisted him on the goal.

The Redhawks answered with two minutes left to go in the first half as Joaquin Vincent Franch received a volley pass from Dante Nicholas to make the game 2-1.
With just under five minutes left to go, LaRoche misfired on a pass to the goalie Abdulla Aljundi and the ball found the back of the net, giving the Titans a 3-1 lead.

Titan senior goalkeeper AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) finished the game with two saves. The Titans outshot the Redhawks, 13-7, and led in corner kicks, 9-1.

The Titans are back in action Saturday, September 23 against Carlow University at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
