Women’s Soccer: Thomas Registers Hat Trick in Titans’ 4-0 Victory over La Roche

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Senior Melissa Thomas (Hubbard, OH / Hubbard) earned a hat trick in the Westminster College women's soccer team's 4-0 win over La Roche College at home in non-conference action Tuesday night.

Titan sophomore Kayla Trozzi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) scored the first goal in the 25th minute of the first half off a deflection in the box. The score was the lone goal of the frame and Westminster led 1-0 at intermission.

In the second half, Thomas made it a convincing win after scoring three goals in an 11-minute span. The first goal came in the 49th minute after she received a pass from freshman Marissa Grande (Hubbard, OH / Hubbard). Thomas broke away, after another pass from Grande, from La Roche's defense for her second goal at the 59:08 mark and made it three-straight goals with a one-touch score after Trozzi found her with a pass under two minutes later.

Westminster outshot La Roche 17-5, including 12-2 on goal. The Titans also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. First-year Jillian Kress (Waterford, PA / Fort Le Boeuf) added three shots, including two on goal.

Titan senior goalkeeper Laura Page (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) collected two saves in 67:54 of work.

Westminster improved to 4-2 overall, while La Roche dropped to 2-4-1.

The Titans will next play Carlow University on Saturday, September 23 at 5 p.m. The game will take place at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa.
