NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team won its eighth-straight game after a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader sweep of Washington & Jefferson College at home on Wednesday.
The Titans won both games with the score of 2-0.
Westminster improved to 16-6 overall and 4-0 in the PAC, while Washington & Jefferson dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
In the first game, senior
Emily Lindsey (Freeport, PA / Freeport) put the Titans on the scoreboard in the first inning with a ground out, scoring senior
Checka Nardone (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln). Sophomore
Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) added insurance for Westminster with an RBI-single in the fifth inning, bringing home junior
Hannah Ritter (Front Royal, VA / Skyline). Junior pitcher
Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) improved to 9-0 on the season after her second shutout win of the season, while striking out a season-high 10 batters. The Titans outhit the Presidents 8-6. Liverman and Ritter each recorded a team-high two hits.
In game two, junior
Alexa Owrey (New Castle, PA / Shenango) scored the first run in the fourth inning with a ground out, scoring classmate
Makena Baumgardner (Summerhill, PA / Forest Hills). Junior
Courtney Cohen (Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) singled home Lindsey in the sixth, bringing the score to 2-0. First-year pitcher
Kayla Troxil (Canfield, OH / Canfield) (5-5) pitched a three-hit shutout, while striking out five. Rohrer came in for relief in the seventh with runners on first and second and struck out the next two President batters to seal the Titan win for her first save of the season. The Titans outhit the Presidents, 6-3, led by Lindsey with two.
Westminster is back in action Saturday, April 8 with a home PAC doubleheader against Chatham University. Game one is set for 1 p.m.
