NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team wrapped up its regular season with a home Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader against Thomas More College on Friday.
The Titans lost game one, 8-0, and fell, 12-8, in the second game.
In game one, Thomas More (32-8, 18-0 PAC) scored two runs in the second, three in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the seventh. The Saints outhit the Titans 11-2. Titan junior
Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) (16-3) pitched 6.1 innings, while giving up eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits. She struck out eight, while issuing a walk. Senior
Checka Nardone (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) and junior
Courtney Cohen (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington) each recorded a hit for the Titans.
In the second game, Titan junior
Alexa Owrey (New Castle, PA / Shenango) tied the game at 1 with an RBI-double in the second inning. The Saints took a 7-1 lead with six runs in the top of the third, however, the Titans scored six runs of their own in the bottom half to re-tie the game at 7. Cohen earned an RBI-double, Rohrer registered a two-run single, Owrey had an RBI with a ground out, and first-year
Kayla Troxil (Canfield, OH / Canfield) earned a two-RBI-single. Thomas More regained the lead, 12-7, with five runs in the fifth. Cohen scored the final run in the sixth with a single. Junior
Emiley Westfall (Jefferson, OH / Perry) (1-2) came in for relief and pitched 1.1 innings and gave up four runs on three hits. Cohen, senior
Emily Lindsey (Freeport, PA / Freeport), and Nardone each tallied multiple hits for the Titans.
Westminster (26-10, 14-4 PAC) clinched the second seed for the 2017 PAC Softball Tournament which will be hosted by Thomas More on Friday-Saturday, May 5-6.
