NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College baseball team lost, 3-2, in a nine-inning game at home to Thiel College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Monday.
Thiel (12-9, 5-4 PAC) scored first in the first inning when Daniel Patrice brought home Jake Marino with a sacrifice fly to center field. Sophomore
Michael Douds (Erie, PA / Cathedral Prep) tied the game, 1-1, with an RBI-single to left field in the bottom of the first, scoring senior
Sean Coyne (New Castle, PA / New Castle); junior
Brandon Rossier (Wexford, PA / North Allegheny) also scored on the play on a fielding error by the left fielder and the Titans led 2-1. The Tomcats tied the game at 2 after Alex Lam was walked with the bases loaded in the third. Patrice doubled home the eventual game-winning run in the sixth, scoring Filippo Costanzo.
The Titans outhit the Tomcats, 8-7. Rossier registered a game-high three hits, while Coyne had two. Titan freshman pitcher
Billy Newcomer (McDonald, PA / South Fayette) (1-1) threw 5.0 innings in relief. He gave up one run on three hits. He struck out one and walked one. Titan freshman left fielder
Connor Cox (Ridge, MD / Leonardtown) highlighted the top of the ninth inning with a diving catch over the fence in foul territory.
Westminster (7-16, 4-8 PAC) will next compete at Geneva College next Tuesday, April 18 in a PAC doubleheader. Game one is set for 2 p.m.
