Softball: Titans Sweep Geneva in PAC Opener

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team swept Geneva College in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener on Saturday.
 
The Titans shut out the Golden Tornadoes in game one, 8-0, in five innings and won, 7-2, in game two.
 
Titan junior Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) improved to 7-0 on the mound after pitching nine total scoreless innings. She pitched a three-hit shutout in game one and only allowed three hits in four innings of relief in game two. She tied a season-high with six strikeouts in both games, while walking one batter total.
 
In game one, Westminster (12-6, 2-0 PAC) scored one run in the first inning, three in the second, three in the third, and one in the fifth. Junior Emiley Westfall (Jefferson, OH / Perry) registered a game-high four RBIs and a double. Sophomore Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) earned three RBIs and a double, while junior Hannah Ritter (Front Royal, VA / Skyline) also had an RBI. The Titans totaled seven hits to the Golden Tornadoes's three. Westfall and junior Alexa Owrey (New Castle, PA / Shenango) each recorded a game-high two hits.
 
In game two, the Titans led 2-0 with two runs in the top of the third inning, however, Geneva (11-9, 0-2 PAC) tied the game at 2 with two runs of their own in the bottom half. Westminster pulled away with five answered runs (two in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth); Rohrer scored the first two runs with a two-run home run, the first of her career. Senior Checka Nardone (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) also had two RBIs, while Owrey earned one. The Titans outhit the Golden Tornadoes, 8-7. Westfall tallied a game-high three hits, while Owrey had two.
 
Westminster will next compete at Allegheny College on Sunday, April 2 for a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
