Softball: Titans Split with Pitt-Bradford in Doubleheader

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team split with the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in a non-conference doubleheader at home Saturday afternoon.

The Titans won game one, 4-1, however, lost, 9-2, in the second game.
 
In game one, Titan junior Hannah Ritter (Front Royal, VA / Skyline) put Westminster (8-6) in front, 2-0 in the second inning, with a two-run double to left field; junior Courtney Dieterich (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) and senior Emily Lindsey (Freeport, PA / Freeport) both scored. Later in the second, junior Emiley Westfall (Jefferson, OH / Perry) added a third Titan run with an RBI-single to right field, bringing home Ritter. Westminster junior Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) added insurance with an RBI-single to center field in the fifth, scoring senior Checka Nardone (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) and the Titans led 4-0. Pitt Bradford (5-9) spoiled the shutout with a run in the sixth inning when Liz Dzurisin singled home Jenna Fellows. Titan first-year Kayla Troxil (Canfield, OH / Canfield) (2-5) pitched a complete game, while only allowing one run on seven hits. She struck out one and walked one.
 
In the second game, junior Nicole Anderson (Oakmont, PA / Riverview), who batted 3-for-3 from the plate, put the Titans ahead 2-0 with a two-run double down the left field line in the second inning; junior Addie Dieterich (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) and Lindsey scored. The Panthers scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead and added four more in the sixth to go in front 7-2. Pitt-Bradford extended its lead with two more runs in the seventh. Westfall (1-1) pitched 4.0 innings, while giving up three runs on six hits and walked two.
 
Westminster is back on the field, Monday, March 27 with a non-conference doubleheader at Penn State Altoona. Game one is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
