Men’s Basketball: Titans Win, 71-57, Against Juniata in First Round of ECAC Tournament

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 71-57, against Juniata College at home in the First Round of the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament presented by Visit Myrtle Beach.
 
Four Titans scored in double-digits, led by junior Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) and Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) who each had 14. Scott registered his 10th double-double of the season as he grabbed down a game-high 12 rebounds. Junior Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) scored 13 points, while sophomore Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) had 12. Domenick made a game-high three three-pointers. Armwood and Scott each dished out a team-high four assists. Vrabel added a team-best two blocks, while Domenick pocketed a team-high three steals.
 
The Titans outshot the Eagles 44.4% (24-54) to 37.3% (25-67) and outrebounded them 42-36.
 
The game was tied 4-4 early in the first half, however, Juniata (13-13) went on a 7-0 run and led 11-4 with 14:36 on the clock. The Eagles, up 16-13 with 10:35 remaining, extended their lead with a 9-2 run and led 25-15 with 7:30 left. Westminster (16-11), however, outscored Juniata 14-3 for the remainder of the frame and led 29-28 at intermission. In the second half, the Titans took their first double-digit lead, 42-32, when senior Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) made a jumper with 16:23 the clock. Westminster had its largest lead of the game, 58-43, when Scott made a layup with 9:01 left. The Eagles orchestrated a 12-3 run to cut the Titans' lead to 61-55 with 4:06 remaining. Westminster would not let Juniata get any closer as it outscored the Eagles 10-2 for the remainder of the contest.
 
The Titans advance to the ECAC Quarterfinals and will play DeSales University (18-9) on Friday, March 3 at 2 p.m. in Erie, Pa. Penn State Behrend is serving as host for the weekend.
