WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Westminster College men's basketball team won, 75-70, at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon.
Four Titans scored in double figures, led by freshman
Cameron Kane-Johnson (Niles, OH / Niles) with 16 points. Junior
Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) (12), junior
Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) (11), and junior
Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) (10) also scored in double digits. Senior
Cameron Pozsgai (Windham, OH / Windham) and sophomore
Austin Armwood (Columbus, OH / Westerville North) scored nine and eight points, respectively. Vrabel led Westminster on the glass with nine rebounds. Kane-Johnson added a career-high seven rebounds, while Scott earned six. Domenick also dished out a team-high four assists. Senior
Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) and Kane-Johnson each pocketed a team-best two steals.
Waynesburg outshot Westminster 48.1% (26-54) to 47.4% (27-57). The Titans outrebounded the Yellow Jackets, 36-31.
Waynesburg (6-15, 4-10 PAC) led 14-2 with 13:39 remaining in the first half. Westminster (14-7, 10-4 PAC) went on a 23-13 run, capped off with a three-pointer by Kane-Johnson, to cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to 27-25 with 3:58 left. Waynesburg held a 35-33 lead at intermission. In the second half, the Titans took their first lead of the game, 38-37, after Armwood made a three with 18:41 on the clock. Westminster was in front, 63-58, with 4:28 remaining, however, Waynesburg orchestrated a 6-0 run to take a 64-63 lead with 2:56 to go. Domenick put the Titans back in front, 65-64, with a layup with 2:09 on the clock. Tied at 65, Kane-Johnson made a three-pointer to give Westminster a 68-65 lead with 1:27 remaining. Waynesburg cut Westminster's lead to 68-67, however, Armwood made another Titan three with 34 seconds left and Westminster led 71-67. Kane-Johnson finished the Titan scoring with four free throws to seal the Westminster win.
The Titans will next travel to Thomas More College (KY) on Wednesday, February 8 with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
