BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team won, 73-61, at Geneva College Wednesday night.
Four Titans scored in double-digits, led by sophomore
Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH), first-year
Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell), and senior
Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) who each scored a game-high 17 points. Junior
Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) also scored in double-figures with 10 points. Fromknecht registered her fourth double-double of the season as she grabbed down a game-high 11 rebounds, to go along with a game-best five blocks. Junior
Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) and first-year
Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry PA / Seneca) netted six and five points, respectively. Mathews tied a career-high with a game-high five three-pointers, while dishing out a game-high five assists. Cook and Quinn added eight and seven boards, respectively. Lyczek led the Titans with three steals.
The Titans outshot the Golden Tornadoes 48.1% (25-52) to 31.7% (20-63) and outrebounded them 38-35.
Geneva (4-20, 1-16 PAC) led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Golden Tornadoes took their largest lead of the first half, 18-11, with 8:17 remaining. Westminster (10-14, 5-12 PAC) orchestrated a 14-2 run and led 25-20 with 3:34 to go in the second. The Titans maintained the lead and led 27-25 at halftime. Westminster pulled away in the third quarter after outscoring Geneva 24-9 in the frame and led 51-34 going into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Golden Tornadoes cut the Titans' lead to eight points, 61-53, with 3:27 to play, but that would be the closest they would get.
Westminster will next host Saint Vincent College on Saturday, February 18 for its regular season finale and Senior Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
